Egyptian holidays are now so popular, you only have to utter the words ‘Sharm El Sheik’ and images of fish dance in front of people’s eyes. Luxor? Valley of the Kings. Cairo? Pyramids. Yet one destination that remains relatively under the radar, but not for long, is Nuweiba.
This east-coat resort is the perfect backdrop for a beach holiday, dripping in sun, and great for a spot of relaxation amongst beautiful surroundings.
Flights to Taba are plentiful year-round, meaning it’s fantastic for some winter sun. Who doesn’t dream of summer sunshine when the days are dark and grim? To make your break even more relaxing, and to add a little extra sparkle, I’d recommend pre-booking Gatwick parking, the pennies you save could go towards a night in an airport hotel, fantastic if you have an early flight. Most major airports offer a range of airport parking and airport hotel options to choose from, especially accommodating the large range of flights out of Gatwick. Take your pick, with a hotel for every budget, including the Sofitel Gatwick, with wonderful facilities. If you’re flying from north of the country the check out the offers that Manchester Airport parking provides.
Laid-back relaxation is the name of the game in Nuweiba, with beautiful beaches and of course, snorkelling. The underwater residents of this part of the world are almost as famous as the country itself, and if you’re wanting to see bright, beautiful marine life, you’ve come to the right place. Maagana Beach is the place to go for fish-spotters, with a coral wall to explore. There are many fantastic dive sites around the area, depending on your level of experience, and plenty of dive schools to help out.
If you prefer to keep your feet on solid ground, maybe a guided trip into the desert is in order, even on the back of a camel!
Of course, this part of the world is famous for its markets and bazaars, but you must haggle! It may feel odd at first, but once you get into it, you’ll be amazed at the bargains you can find.
Evening entertainment is never raucous in Nuewiba, as the day-time chill-out tends to continue into the evening. As many hotels around the resort are all-inclusive, you’ll find that most entertainment is based in hotels, with local dancing and music. Out in town, you’ll find bars and restaurants too, serving international and Middle Eastern food.
Nuweiba is about slowing down the pace of life, kicking back and enjoying the sun. This relaxing holiday deserves a chilled-out start, so be sure to check out my idea of airport hotels, especially if you have an early morning flight. There’s nothing worse than having to get out of bed at silly o’clock to make your way to the airport, leaving you exhausted for the rest of the day!
There’s more to Egypt than pyramids, and Nuweiba is a great place to start your exploration of this fascinating country.
