There are few cities that bring as definite a response as Las Vegas does to the notion of partying and spectacles – simply put, it’s in a class all its own. With sights and sounds that can only be found in Las Vegas, it’s no wonder it’s not so much a recommended travel destination as it is a rite of passage. Appealing to travellers of all ages, budgets and tastes, vacations to Las Vegas can be as eventful as you want them to be, but if there’s one thing Vegas is not, it’s subdued.
This is infinitely true of the entertainment venues of Las Vegas, which feature some of the biggest names in the world of show business and literally every type of attraction you can think of. From music to theatre, to sports and food, to recreation and the unbelievable, you’ll have a harder time deciding what to see and do than just about every other choice during your stay.
Take a look below at some of the best shows Las Vegas has to offer, keeping in mind they are always changing and some have to be booked well in advance of your departure.
Blue Man Group
When they first emerged on the scene years ago in New York, the Blue Man Group definitely turned a few heads for their unusual set up and performance – they are, as their name suggests, painted blue – but they currently stand as one of the must see performances if you find yourself in Vegas. Using pipe, paint and numerous other unusual tools to create music and spectacle, it is a performance you won’t soon forget.
Cirque du Soleil
Forget everything you think you know about circus performances, contortionists and gymnastics – Cirque du Soleil will leave you speechless as you witness the most elaborate stage show ever conceived. While there are numerous travelling Cirque shows, as they originate from Quebec, Las Vegas’s “O” blows them all away in its scope and grandeur and should be attended if you can find tickets!
One of the old standards of Las Vegas is one of the most famous illusionists in the world – David Copperfield, a man who has made the Statue of Liberty disappear and walked through seemingly impenetrable structures. While magic and illusions are no stranger to Las Vegas, David Copperfield stands the test of time as being one of the best shows you can see during your time in the desert.
If for some reason you don’t see a single show in Las Vegas, fear not; the city is a spectacle unto itself and can be thoroughly entertaining for anyone who sets foot in it. From walking down the famous strip as it’s set aglow by the innumerable lights and displays, to the Bellagio fountains or the vacation seekers and locals who give the city its colour, you’ll be planning your next trip to Vegas in no time.
Having only been to Las Vegas the one time, I can safely say I can’t wait to go back. The deals with Travelbag might provide me with the motivation to head back to sin city and party it up like I really need to!
