A Romantic Trip to Cuba

Many people think of the Caribbean in general when planning a romantic getaway or honeymoon but far fewer people think of Cuba specifically. It’s a fantastic place to spend a romantic break together, bringing together all the luxury and relaxation of the typical beach holiday with the rich culture of Havana to create the perfect mix for romance. Here are some ideas to help you plan your romantic holiday and make it truly memorable.

Relax on the Beach

As you would expect from a tropical destination, Cuba has over three hundred natural white sand beaches to choose from so you’re sure to find the right spot to lie on the sand and enjoy the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean sea lapping at your feet. For something truly romantic you could arrange to have couples massage under the shade of the palms that line the sands. Varadero is a great choice if you’re staying in Havana and want just a few days at the beach, as it’s only two and a half hours’ drive from the capital. It’s also home to the country’s only full 18-hole golf course if you’re that way inclined…

Culture in Havana

Havana is the political, cultural and economic heart of Cuba, as well as one of the great and important historical cities of the New World. Old Havana has been undergoing an extensive renovation and has a plethora of historical, cultural, and architectural highlights to see. Why not take them in with a romantic chauffeured vintage car tour? 1950s cars are a fixture of this vibrant city, and rolling around the streets in your very own will really make you feel part of it all. You’ll take in all the sights and sounds, and usually even see a few performers playing music with people stopping to dance in the street. To top it all off go for a romantic candle lit dinner for two and a few mojitos at La Bodeguita del Medio – the birthplace of the drink, and one of Earnest Hemmingway’s favourite haunts when he lived here.

Water Sports

If just lying on the beach isn’t your thing and you want something a bit more adventurous, Cuba is a great place for all kinds of water sports from kayaking to scuba diving. Caya Coco is known for its water sports, so is a great spot to head to if you want a little excitement. It’s also so secluded that you’ll feel like you’re tucked away on your own private beach – perfect to escape and enjoy time together.
