Things to do in Calgary, Canada

So you are thinking about going to Alberta, a province that combines prairie landscape in its eastern side and mountains in its west. This diversity of landscape appears close to its largest city Calgary. Calgary is a city that is thriving in recent years with a booming economy and a growing and robust down town core. A great thing about Calgary too is its proximity to the Rocky Mountains and some of the world’s best skiing and alpine fun. While you’re actually spending time in Calgary however here are some suggestions for places to go and things to do in and around the city.


Peter’s Drive in
An icon in Calgary since 1962 Peter’s in known for delicious burgers cooked on a flame grill and heaping portions of tasty fries. Still set up as an old school drive in restaurant people make their orders lined up in their cars then eat in the parking lot. On Friday nights Peter’s attracts automotive guys looking to showcase their wheels.

Flame’s Central
If you can’t get yourself inside of the Saddle Dome this is the sports bar to watch Calgary’s pride the NHL’s Flames play. The interior is huge, this space use to be a cinema. There’s no doubt with the dozens upon dozens of high definition big screens that you will always get an amazing view of what ever sporting event happens to be on. An on sight restaurant caters to hungry fans during games.

Heritage Park Historical Village
Heritage Park recreates Calgary as the frontier town it was in years past. The opposite of modern Calgary all the buildings in the village are from 1915 or earlier. 26 acres of land to explore recreates an old frontier fort, grain mill, school, and church amongst other buildings. Also take advantage of the opportunity to ride on steam train.

Fish Creek Provincial Park
Just on the southwest edge of the city is the huge Fish Creek Provincial Park a wilderness sanctuary. This park provides a litany of different trails for walkers and mountain bikers. Even though it still is in Calgary don’t be surprised to find wild animals such as deer or beaver wandering around inside the parks confines.

Melrose Place
A great little pizza joint that takes its name from the 90’s cult classic television show of the same name. Set right in Calgary’s trendy 17th avenue Melrose has been a popular starting and finishing spot for partiers for years. The gourmet pizzas are soaked down with one of the many different Canadian and international beers on tap. The patio is a calling card and a great scene filled with relaxed locals enjoying a warm afternoon.
